Some years are transformative ones where we burst out of our shells and gallop at such a rate that speeding light goes at a snail’s pace.
2014 was such a year for me with the first month spent in the Domestic Violence court winning a DVO against my business partner who was also my life partner which left me in a wilderness of low self-esteem and fear of failure.
I struggled on with my six month old business start-up in an industry that I was unfamiliar with but loved from the moment I registered it.
Living with IT was created because I knew each home and business had a number of computers that would need computer repairs and servicing.
For twelve months I stood in survival mode and put one foot in front of the other to make enough money to pay bills and feed my six year old daughter and I.
I had to throw myself into the business world during school hours and so the North GC Business Lunch Series was created of which the lunch events are now sold out every month. It wasn’t ego driving me, it was pure fear and desperation.
As I got into the rhythm of learning the business ropes, I had the good fortune to surround myself with business leaders and successful business supporters. I met the then Prime Minister Tony Abbott and a number of Federal Ministers and local and state members of Parliament as well as Gina Rinehart, the richest woman in Australia. These leaders gave me courage and inspiration to keep growing.
As a result, I founded and ran the North GC Business Expo in August 2014 which was a huge success for businesses in the fastest growing region of Australia. My ethos has always been “if you help enough people, then success will come”.
As my confidence grew I sought out media to raise my profile, which I encourage all small business owners to do. My personal healing was moved along by being brave and standing on a platform in public and on social media to tell Gold Coast women, Domestic Violence has no place in our community.
A year on and I feel like a new person, I have scheduled in ME time and I am just about to launch the South GC Business Lunch Series as well as the South GC Business Expo. My Facebook Success Workshops will extend to run in Brisbane and Living with IT, my core business, has doubled its revenue.
From desperation comes inspiration and I am grateful for all the support I have received along my journey this year.
